I have one thing that has not been mentioned yet. Studs are MUCH easier on the threads, especially on an aluminum head. All the load on the threads is a straight pull to hold the parts together with no twisting, galling or potential for cross threading. Studs are a good option and worth the small cost and effort.

So to dig up a mildly dead thread.
For those of you who did buy the studs from GM. What did they look like? Were they just your common stud? Did they have either a recessed allen head or a smaller hex head on the end of the stud to use to torque the studs into the head? Were the part numbers listed above for a single stud and single nut or do the numbers correspond to packages of studs/nuts? How about the nuts, were they a carriage nut? Were the nuts of the same hardness of metal as the studs? (it is common in the diesel industry to use nuts of a softer metal so that when they cross thread coming off they do not damage the stud.) Pictures would be nice too if you've got any.

i was at O'Reillys today and they only had a stud kit for my truck no bolts. i dont remember who made em but they had them for my truck and i cant find them on their website :/ i will have to call them tomorrow and get more info. i have a 2002 gmc sierra 5.3
