glasspack as a resonator

PaceSetter offers an ORY that bolts directly to their headers, just be aware, that without cats it wll be extremely loud. I just gutted my cats on my StainlessWorks Y-pipe, and the exhaust sound level and note changed drastically. I have a Gibson 24" muffler dumped before the axle, and with the gutted cats it's very loud

ok, thanks,im stickin with cats, i dont want super loud, how much will i gain by headers? because if they make the exhaust too loud its not worth it for me. i do want a nice low rumble though, will shorties provide this, or do i gotta go with longtubes? and will shorties bolt straight on to the exhaust or will i need a y pipe? and with longtubes will they bolt straight on or do i gotta get a y pipe and new cats?

If you get shorties, they are a direct replacement for your factory manifolds, and no aftermarket y-pipe is necessary. As for long tubes, it depends on what system you get. StainlessWorks, ARH, and Dynatech offer systems with long tubes and catted y-pipes, but all 3 are pricey. A lot of guys here use the Ebay/OBX system which is a Dynatech copy, except that system doesn't have cats but has resonators where the cats would be. The resonators should help bring the sound level down, but also require tuning to turn off the rear O2 sensors or you'll get a check engine light. If you opted for the ebay system, you could always get cats welded in place of the resonators, but then the price starts to go up and partially offsets the money saved by going with the inexpensive ebay system. I'm sure that it will still be cheaper than the first 3 that I mentioned though. I suppose that you could always go with the aforementioned PaceSetters and ORY, and have cats welded into the ORY, but fitment will be tight, as the PaceSetters have true 3" collecotrs which appear to be fairly long...guys have welded cats into the PaceSetter ORY though, I remember seeing pictures of it around here somewhere.

i think im just gonna hold off on headers for now, until i get the time to dink around, im gonna be driving to texas in a week so i dont have a lot of time. my brother came over last night with his silverado and si/do glasspack, and i have to say it sounded pretty darn good. but im not sure how it would be for cab drone.
