Default Gears or Nitrous

Alright guys im torn on what to do next. I have two options. I could go with a eaton posi, and either 390 or 410 gears(not sure which yet) or I could go with a NX wet kit with all the accessories.

I figure both will be right at 1000 bucks but im not sure which to do. I have a 342 open rear right now, so as you can imagine traction becomes an issue when trying to launch.

Help me out with some reccomendations on which gear size, or should i go with the nitrous.

Im not an expert on anything by any means, but I would get the posi and gears. I have the open 3.42 as well and it just plain sucks, I think my truck would actually run faster with in the 1/4 with a fourwheeler in the back.

LOL, yea i have been leaning toward redoing the rear end, but the shop i go to recomends the 410. I dont want to totally kill my milage. right now i get about 13 city and 18 hwy, and i drive with a pretty heavy foot. I dont want the truck to be tachin too high when im riding down the hwy at 80. Thats why I am leaning toward maybe a 390. any suggestions would be nice.

if your planning to get a stall in the future, 3.73s -3.90s will be good. If you're not going to get a stall, 4.10s would be good.

I have 4.10s and a stall, so those RPMs climb pretty fast, especially on the hose.

Yeah if I were you I think I would definitely have to do the rearend first. I would go with the 4.10's, in overdrive going about 80 down the highway in my truck the rpm's aren't that bad at all maybe 2500 or so if that.

If I ever do a stall i dont think it will be more than the trailblazer stall which is supposed to be around 2500. at 80 now in my truck i am about 2100 rpm or so. If i recall right.

You will enjoy the gears much more than the nitrous. I have a set of 3:90's in mine and I love them, it seems to me most people forget about the 3:90, everyone says 4:10 or 3:73, the only thing about 3:90 is that it is not a factory option, so a hand held tuner such as hypertech or the others will not have the 3:90 as a gear option and your spedo will be about 4-5 mph off. I also had 3:42 with open diff, when I went with gears, you will love it. It will not make a major diff in 1/4 times, but the fun factor will go up tremendously. As far as gas mileage, I recently got 20 mpg on highway, I pull about 2200 2300 at 70-75 mph. You will lose mpg on city driving because you will want to kick it everytime you take off. Trust me gears are the way to go between these two. I spent $210 for Precesion 3:90. 100 gear install kit, 300 Auburn LSD, 125 installation, 50 for lube and additive. By the way if you do go with gear, get a front seal from the dealership, they have a different design or something, mine leaked with the seal that came in kit, with factory I have not had a problem.

Well im not going to be installling it myself. I will take it broward powertrain which is pretty much the most reputable shop in south florida as far as i have heard. They quoted me 1000 for the eaton, gears, and install. I figured that would be about right, plus they will warrenty the work on it which I like especially if i blow it up at the track or something.

I agree nitrous would be useless with open diff. Personally I would go with gear and eaton posi unit then put nitrous later.
