Which gears for me?
#1
I am thinking of changing my gears. My truck has the factory 3.42 and the limited slip (G80). I dont know which gears to get. I've heard that the 3.42 work best in the 1/4 mile since the truck wont shift to 3rd but a lower gear makes it quicker. A friend told me to get the 3.73 but I 've seen many trucks around here with the 4.10s and everyone seems pretty happy with them. I want to make my truck as fast as possible.
Hell Yeah! Which is the best gear ratio for my mods? Oh and what differential do our trucks use?
99 RCSB 5.3 GMC
K&N
True dual custom Borla exhaust
HPPIII
160* thermo
Bosch +4 plugs
more mods to come...

wow, another valley person..
if you have the 3:42's, you should make the step up to 4:10's. I wish i had a bit of dough to do 4.10s and a eaton. believe me with those gears and good grip, and you will be happy.

I have driven a truck with 4.10 gears and they still have very good highway manners. Just go for the 4.10. Btw, where are you going to have them installed?

Thanks for the feedback guys. I think I’ll go with the 4.10. I really don’t know where to have them installed (I need to buy them first). You guys know of any good performance shop around here? All of the mods on the truck I have done myself since they were fairly easy.
Hey thanks again.
