Default Gear Drive

Can someone explain to me what a gear drive does. I know it replaces the timing chain with two gear like sprokets! What else does it do and what is it good for?

it eliminates timing chain slop, therefore increasing cam timing accuracy. it's also very noisy. Some people like it, cause it sounds like a supercharger. Real gearheads know what gear drive sounds ilke, compared to a blower. You still get props either way, it's fun to have. One downfall i know if, it's impossible to troubleshoot your accessorys ( I.e. alternator and such) because the noise from the geardrive overpowers it. Also, they're so noisy, in some fuel injected applications where there's knock sensor, it triggers false knock codes and can really screw with the way your engine runs. If you got a carburator, do it up, sure doesn't hurt things.

They've been known to rob quite a bit of power too. A timing chain does too, but even more so. A belt drive is ideal if you're rich.

Plus they do sound like a blower, and if you don't actually have one, then that=

how would you adapt our oil pump to a gear drive setup though? Since the pump is chain-driven some fabrication would seem to be in order...
