I forget who said that the 04 SS exhaust will bolt up to a VHO, but I tend to differ on that one.
I had my local GM parts manager pull up the factory cat back exhaust system part #'s and pictures of both the SS and VHO. They are totally different.
At least compared to my 05' VHO.
Corsa even said the 04 SS exhaust system will not bolt up to the 05 VHO.
They will have an exhaust system for the 05 VHO's early or mid summer.

Jim
Where did they look differant, Bends, hangers etc?

I would give it another tank of gas.

I have 7000 miles now and the best mpg yet 18.2 on the highway and 16.5 town.I am running a SuperChip with a 87 octane tune and dual exhaust. The snugLid should help too.A friend had a GMC with the 6.0 LQ4 and he said his best mileage started after the truck had 10,000 miles. We will see!

I forgot to mention earlier that my mileage numbers were with 35psi of tire pressure on mostly flat roads. I am seeing wear in the center of my tires and have backed the pressure down. I assume mileage will be somewhat less, maybe not much. We'll see.

Instead of buying a entire aftermarket exhaust, I simply bought a higher flowing muffler. There are many available out there. I went with the Flo-Pro HD. The stock pipes design from the cats back is not bad at all. I can't see where there are any restrictions that would hamper performance. It is basically a personal choice. I want to look as stock as possible and spent the money I saved elsewhere.

How many miles do you have on the truck?
I have 1,700 mi at this time. I run 89 oct with a best of 15.4 mpg currently.
Only mod- Volant CAI (no ram air tube yet, but it's coming)
Do you think the mpg will get better anytime soon? Did your VHO start out with poor miliage and get better with more miles?

My MPG at the cluster and the calculation at fill up are very very close.
I hope with more miliage my mpg gets better.

They have different mounting points at the two bolt style flanges that are behind the cats where a cat-back system would bolt up.
The hangers are placed a little different (hangers hang lower on the SS than the VHO due to the SS ground effects). Therefore also making the bends a little different at the same time.
Corsa told me they would have an exhaust system for my 05' VHO this summer.

I think we have the same trucks 04 blackvho. Your MPG sounds like mine.
Maybe ours were made side-by-side at the GM factory (just painted in a different booth).
I hope our mpg will increase sometime soon.

I run the 93 octane fuel exclusively. IMHO the LQ9, with its higher compression, needs the higher octane fuel to be most efficient. My mileage did improve somewhat over time. My truck has 19K miles on it now. I remember seeing better mileage and performance around 6K miles. My memory is poor though.

I just read an article the other day on fuel mileage. Several things that people overlook are that different manufactures use more/less ethanol in their gas than others. The major brand gas company's usually net better mpg than the "off brand" distributors due to the fact that fuel oxygenating and ethanol mixtures tend to be higher in the off brand fuels. Also, fuel mixtures are different during different times of the year. I definately notice a difference in the winter, as my mileage tends to be about 1.5 mpg worse. Also, none of my mods (including tonneau cover) seemed to matter much one way or the other, except the converter, which seems to have cost me about 1 - 1.5 mpg.
