Question Gas Miliage For VHO

I noticed a best of 16.4 mpg before I added my Volant CAI.
I now notice that the best I will get now is 15.4 mpg. I'm not sure if I'm just driving it a little harder being I'm getting use to it or it was the cause of my CAI kit. I do have the Volant ram air tube, but it is not yet installed. I will be sending it back to them and they will be sending me a newer version of the ram air tube.
I was told by volant that the ram air tube will definitely increase my mpg. He told me that if it didn't, that something is wrong with my truck.
Basically I want to know what you guys with the VHO or SS are getting in an average MPG?
Also what else will help my MPG that will not sacrifice any driveability.
I know I can either park it or stay under 2,000 rpm's most of the time (which I do most of the time already).
Any help on this issue will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Jim

As For Me Is Seems As Though The More Mods I Make = Less Mpg. This Would Be Because Of The Urge To Put My Foot Further Into The Pedal. Theoretically These Mods Are Gas Saving, But They Increase The Performance Making Me Want To Feel The Performance. You Want To Save Money And Gas? I'd Stop The Mods. I Know My Wife Wishes I Never Got My Truck. I Get About 10 To 13 Mpg. But I Want To Hear It Imo!

I'm baffled myself with the 1 mpg drop in miliage with the edition of the Volant CAI kit. I would have thought it would have gained 1 mpg too.
I don't know what happened!

I agree with 1slow01Z71 get your exhaust opened up and you should see an improvement in mpg. After I got my catback system on I gained 1-2mpg, also your mileage should get a little better the more your truck gets broke in.

I've been told by several local tuners that Hypertech is the best programmer for GM vehicles. A custom tune is a whole other issue.
I also tested this miliage issue before by setting my cruise at 65 mph on the highway for a good 30 mile stretch. In stock factory form it gave me a best of 16.4 mpg average.
After the added Volant system, I did the same test and came up with a loss of a whole 1 mpg.
I know what you mean about the added mods and a heavier foot.
My previous 2000 2-WD Silverado was also an ext cab, but equipped with a 5.3L
It had a K&N FPIK II kit with a Tornado, Hypertech, and dual exhaust (had the Y-pipe removed) with it going into a single X-chamber Flowmaster that went in two and came out two, V-Power NGK plugs, and 8.5mm MSD wires.
With those mods my 5.3L put out between 17-21 mpg, no matter how it was driven.

I want exhaust, but no exhaust manufacturer makes a bolt-on system for my truck yet. Hopefully by this summer......I hope.
Does anyone make an x-pipe, or high flow cat replacements for these trucks?

What gears are in the VHO? I also had a 2wd ext. cab with the 5.3 and 3.42 gears and it seemed like I could go forever on a tank of gas and then I got my SS with the LQ9, AWD, and 4.10's and got a big shock for mpg.

I have a corsa bolt on system for my 2004 VHO. It was worth the money as well. Here are my average MPGs since I bought the truck:

14.9457
16.2318
19.8772
12.2041
16.2040
16.7563
13.7041
13.4971
14.43317888
14.97261921
16.28546359
17.19400097
15.86886862
13.58690465

As you can see, I am all over the place, and I don't really drive my truck that much differently from day to day.

I filled up this am and got 17.2 out of my tank. It seems that I can get between 15 -17 on an average with my vho. Also, the vho's come standard with 3.73 gears.
