Smile gas mileage readout

Does anyone know if the pcm's on 04's keep track of gas mileage even if you don't have the optional steering wheel controled driver info center? I'm looking at a diagnostic tool called "scangauge" that reads codes, ect., but also has the ability to read mileage figures.

Mine gives out a average mile per gallon which is set on 14.6 and can't seem to get any better. Other then that I am not sure what your asking.

Default The Cluster Stores Memory Data

Example, if you replace the PCM your milage stays the same. The cluster stores it. I have not experianced the units with no steering wheel controls.

Hey, cstchevy, incase you have not experianced this. For the avg mpg readout. It drove me crazy for a while. I drove in the city to work & back for 4 weeks and it read 14.5, then took a 250 mile trip on I-75 @ 75mph and it did not go up. It was still averaging in the 4 weeks of city mpg. Somehow I missed in the manual how to press & hold the enter button to reset it.
It's nice that we can get on the highway and get that avg alone.

ok, I thought i just got that but wasn't sure. I fill up about every 8-9 days and that's on 40 miles a day plus probably 75-50 miles for the weekend. So I guess it's pretty close. havne't taken a road trip yet in the truck.

Can anybody answer the original question? I'm curious about this myself. I don't have steering wheel control of the display but are all the same features available?
