trying to pull the crank pulley off, I messed up a few threads for the crank bolt and the bolt wont thread on. Its snagging and rotating the crank How can I fix this? I 'm trying to finsh off this truck today

You are taking it off? Why are you using the bolt? The correct puller has a long unthreaded rod that bottoms out inside the crank. If the crank bolt will not thread in you should run a tap inside to clean up the threads. Remember the factory crank bolts are a 1 time use.

i rented one and the rod wasn't long enough
so i was trying to improvise and failed
then I tried another way and was successful, wish i had done that way first
How do I fix the thread?
edit* its just the first thread i believe.

It's possible to make your own thread chaser by taking another crank bolt and cutting 3 or 4 vertical slots equal distant from each other on the length of the bolt threads. The depth of the cut should be down to just beyond the minor diameter of the threads. If the threads are really buggered up, you can grind down the 1st few threads on your newly made thread chaser, tapering it down a little more, so that it will start easier and still be able to clean up the threads once the larger part of the bolt starts running through.

^^ I agree..I have done that..Or you could get a small triangle shaped file and start re-shaping the grooves on the bolt...Or go buy a cheap metric tap & die set at the local auto parts store.........

no, I have a new one. I was just using the old one to rotate the crank.
I just put it in there once more and tried tightening the bolt down and it broke through what ever was in the way. Now its fine
