Default Futral cam recommendation

I emailed Futral Motorsports and told them my set up (in sig) and they recommended a 210/214 114. I told them I was thinking about the 212/218 114 but wasnt for sure. It looks like a good cam for a little better low end for the 4.8L, how do you think it will compare against the 212/218 114?

I would do the 212/218 with a stall. Those are my plans with my set up.

I think it would keep more low-end and add more mid-range. I'd go with it...

that is the exact cam I have in my 4.8, and it runs nice. It pulls all the way up to my shift at 6200. I'm running 13.497@101.78. My only mods (other than bolt ons) are the cam and a 100 shot. I'm also still on stock tuning

I think its a good choice. Its easier to over-cam a 4.8L. I remember seeing several guys install cams in their 4.8s and end up not happy due the the loss of low / mid power.

What are the lift numbers they recommended? .556 .559 ?

I am not sure about the lift numbers, he didnt say in the email. Would a .556 .559 sound right?

cary00silve - What do you run cam only, and are you running an aftermarket TC?

I would go with the FMS cam you don't won't to kill all the low end torque in a 4.8!

What kind of setup are you going for in the long run??? Turbo/ Supercharger, NOS or N/A!! You need to know this b4 you purchase, or it helps to know this b4 you purchase!!! Trust me you don't want a cam thats made for agressive N/A tuning if you plan on charging it or any forced inductoin for that matter!!!! N/A cams are usually a little more agressive than the ones need for lets say a turbo. And even if you go N/A you need a strong set of heads on that to handle the flow!!! Air flow is only as strong as its weakest link...well sort of.

I though I may shed a little light on this subject since I just got off the phone with him ordering my cam.
He was telling me that his 210/214 cam was real popular and good for the trucks. I dont know about the lift on the 210 but the 214 lobe was either a .535 or .547. He recomended that cam to me at first but as we talked, mine got a little bigger. We decided on a 214/216 .547/.556 113+4. I am really happy with those specs and cant wait to get it put in.

btw... I think his recomendation would be well suited for your 4.8 considering the cam motion lobes he uses tend to provide more average power than the comp xe lobes. The highlift xer may be more compribale though. We were talking about the popularity of the 212/218 and he said he just didn't have a good 212 lobe to choose from. I would highly recomend for anyone looking for a custom grind to give him a call. He is a super nice guy to talk to and seems to be very knowledgable.
