Fuel tank upgrade ?
#1
Before I get blasted I have searched and couldn't find what I was looking for
.
I used to have a 99 Silverado with like a 33gallon tank and loved the extra mileage it gave me. My 07 2500HD (classic) only has like a 25gallon tank and I have to fillup every 325-250 miles (14mpg). What I am wondering is if GM has a factory tank I can just swap in thats larger like my old tank. I understand the fuel systems were different but I was hoping they had this option on the newer trucks also.
TIA

After doing a little research it looks like the LWB trucks got the bigger tank (my 99 was LWB). I wonder how much bigger it actually is as from what I have read even the newer trucks got the bigger tank in LWB.
This is the only pic I could find of the tank on my 99, it was S/C with 37's and got about 12mpg so the bigger tank was a godsend.

Every GM pickup I have had built since 73 has had bigger tanks on long bed models, no matter what cab configuration or engine drivetrain combo..
I was wondering about a Yukon rear mount fuel tank in place of spare tire on my C3.
Has anyone tried anything similar thus more than doubling fuel capacity for longer drives & or running two different fuel octanes?

there is a reason why fuel tanks are no longer mounted behind the axle in production vehicles. With that said, my 96 Impala SS along with millions of other vehicles had the fuel tank behind the axle.

I know there's a reason but I fail to see the logic or fear of mounting the tank behind the rear axle as the tanks are no longer made of metal. other than a little fuel spillage possibly. Oh that's right, it's about the environment, silly me.............
