Fuel Pump problem again?
#11
ok so today i installed my fuel pump and it ran fine for a minute and it started flooding really bad the plugs were black as could be. I can turn the truck off for a few minutes and then start it back up and it seems to be running fine and it will rev up and everything then after about 5 mins its starts to flood again... Do i need a retune for the new pump? my mods are procharger and a futral blower cam and 60# injectors. I also am running a boost pump. What is weird to me tho is why would it run fine for a few minutes and start flooding... So far I have changed the pump, filter cleaned the fuel rails and injectors and changed plugs. Im stumped on this one. Oh and btw the fuel pressure looked pretty good

What about the Fuel pressure regulator when you pull the vacum line off ?does it go up 10 psi. What is your pressure at now at Idle? You may need to have your tune looked at. How is your boost pump set up? what is regulating that from pumping to much pressure? Try puting a gauge on it at Idle and wait the 5 min till it starts flooding and see if the fuel pressure goes up before it dies.

What do your short term fuel trims look like? I had the same problem and it ended up being an exhaust leak.
My O2's were sensing a false lean condition, because of the fresh air that gets sucked in through the leak (downstream of the sensors too), and causing it to dump a **** ton of fuel. It was popping sputtering like crazy

Did you check the connector at the pump? sometimes they can "burn" from resistance and cause problems like you described. Thats what I would check especially if the sending unit is acting up too. I've seen the actually melt the plastic around the terminals. Are you replacing the whole fuel module or just the pump? because there are connectors inside the module that can "burn" too.

I just replaced the whole pump, I did not see anything burned or anything. I will check and see if I can find and exaust leak I do hear a slight one coming from my headers and have been thinking that maybe it could be coming from my oxygen sensors. I will check my short terms when I can. Ill try and keep updated.

If you do have the square shaped fuel pump connector, buy the newly designed fuel pump which comes with a new style of plug

I had hell getting my pacesetters to seal off after taking them off a couple of times. I ended up getting a muffler shop to weld some thick 3 bolt flanges to them and the y pipe.
it solved my exhaust leaks, and popping sputtering problem. a vacuum leak would have similar effects too, you need to put it on a scanner and see what its doing though
