Mine has been doing this on and off as well. Maybe its time to replace it. What do they run? How hard are they to replace? I did a search and it seems this is pretty common and has been discussed many times. The consensus is that our trucks have noisy fuel pumps.

okay just did this the other day on my rcsb, although mine wasn't whinning or making any strange noises i was geting some surging and it took forever to start the truck. i know this will be different for greentahoe becuase he probably will have to drop the tank. What i did was took off the bed, once i got the bed lifted off with a couple of buddies the swap took about 10 min tops. just disconect the lines and pop the new one in, no sweat. My bed was real easy to take off, i decdied to do it this was becuase i had about a half tank of gas. Just unbolte the 8 bolts that hold the bed on and unplug to plugs right near the bumper and unbolt the filler neck holder behind the fuel door. i got the pump off a memeber on here for 200 bucks, this included the pump and the sender, i got quoted by the dealer a price of 400 for the pump and 80 for the sender part, YIKES!

If no problems w/ the way it runs then forget about it. Mine started making that noise at around 50-60k and didn't go out till over 150k. Just listen to other GM trucks and suburbans and you'll start noticing the same noise. I like you was concerned but everyone I talked to said those pumps are good for well over 100K and they were right in my case...Zed

P.S. By the way I had over 3500 hrs. on that pump when I replaced it.
