Default flywheel questions

well i havnt been updating my thread about my t56 swap because Ive been so disgusted with the way its been turning out...heres the thread to bring everyone up to speed...https://www.performancetrucks.net/fo...d.php?t=435897

well i had to get the input shaft milled down on the tranny seeing the crank stuck out about 5/8" too far and the input shaft was bottoming out against the crank...well got it done and put the trans back in and it worked...now i need to get a starter to fire this beast and the GM GTO costs about 508 bucks so i got a hi torque starter from summit for 214 with no nose cone so it wouldnt hit the bell housing...so we put it in and it starts!...awesome time for the 1st trip with the 6 speed...well it was still on jack stands so we shut it off to set the truck on the ground and open the bay doors and then proceed to start the truck, but it just makes a 'zinggggg' noise...

so now we take the starter out and test it and it wouldnt 'shoot' out but just spin...so summit said they would ship us another over night and take care of it...so we get the new starter and try it with the same problem...we test the starter and the same result...so we think they got a bad 'batch'(kinda like the 918 springs) but we decided to try it with a big battery charger and it did shoot out...we reinstall it back in the truck and make sure the batt is charged but again the same problem...so we call it a night...

after a long time of we got to thinkin and did some searching on here and someone had a remotely simliar problem with the starter not reaching the flywheel...me and andy(sbchvy) both look and each other and go WTF!

so we think the 4.8 flywheels must got out farther than the new models...we measure it and its the same as the new one i got...so we've come to the conclusion that the ring gear is brought back just the 1/2" to 5/8" and the 1st time we started it, the starter must have just kissed the ring gear...gmpartsdirect.com does show a different part number for 99-00 and 01+ for the flywheels

so after you guys have just read all this bullshit, my question is...can I use my stock flywheel(new one) with the ls7 clutch? I believe the ls7 clutch is smaller so i hope it will work...we need to pull the trans and look and both flywheels and see if it will work...if not, i guess my 6.0 will be put together sooner than later...

any input would be appricated...
