Default flowmaster bad

So I'm hearing that flowmaster is bad. I like the sound.

is it so bad that you actually lose power? althrough minute.. or is it just you don't get AS MUCh as the other brands..

the band wagon members will tell you how bad they are but again bandwagon members. they seen a chart that was from a few years ago that was comparsion of the big block muffler instead of a car muffler in that testing

yes they dont flow as well as say a straight thru muffler but no chamber muffler does. they probably sound the throatiest IMHO and great sounding. ive ran them on everything ive driven with 4 wheels. this time around im just using resonators but this is somewhat a full out max effort build

the hp difference is like 5 and 5 hp can be made up in anything really

you wont lose a race cause you have a flowmaster compared to a magnaflow

also some say you lose power, you dont lose power, what you lose is the lowend response your used to with stock mufflers. anytime you free up air flow you move powerband slightly higher in rpms

then you have ppl saying backpressure. back pressure is bad, its velocity and scavaging

Thank God someone told the truth on this subject! And the part about no chamber muffler flowing better than a straight-through is what everyone doesn't seem to get. I hope everyone on the board sees this thread to really understand why Flowmaster is no better nor worse than any other muffler.

So to the original poster, just go with what you like the sound of most... and if you are worried about losing that bottom end a tad, just up your stall speed, or throw a 4.10 gear in the rear end.

There was an old thread posted on another forum about Magnaflow vs. Flowmaster mufflers. The Magnaflow outflowed the Flowmaster by almost double. After they tested the CFM's of the muffler they actually put each muffler on the car ( I think it was a 2005 Mustang GT) and tested the RWHP of each. After each muffler was ran, the car put down the same numbers with both. So even though chamber design = less flow, it does not necessarily mean less power.

id dont think anyone would be able to feel the difference between flowmaster and some straight-through-design other muffler so id say just go with what sounds good to you

Ignore the hype! Any straight thru muffler will out flow a Flowmaster (duh). But you won't tell a diffrence in it. Hell a Hooker Aerochamber (The New Muffler God) is a chambered muffler and it may or maynot outflow a Flowmaster $0 series....but the Flowmaster sure has a better raspy sound IMO.

keep in mind the inside diameter of a staight through. Some staight throughs that have 2.5" pipes are only 1.5" inside. Also on a side note a street bike with 1" exhaust tip can dyno well over 100hp. Flowmaster sometimes rate their stuuf in hp Eg. 2.5"=250hp
