I saw some pics of your exhaust and noticed you don't have cats. I was just wondering if you needed any o2 simms to clear your SES light. A friend installed my ASM headers today and I am taking it to the exhaust shop to get the flanges welded. I am tempted to tell the guys at the exhaust shop to just cut the cats and run a straight pipes. What do you think I should do?

 

cut the cats and run straight pipes....it will sound awesome with long tubes and the magnaflow cat back with no cats.

 

I just got some ASM longtubes and was wondering if the header will pass the catalytic converter, thus making me cut the cat and relocate it.

Or will it fit without relocating the factory cats?

Is it worth gutting the cats? Will i lose backpressure and then lose low-end torque?

you don't have to move the stock cats for the asm headers, i have heard they come up like a half inch ahead of the cats. i would gut the cats before i take them out completely now since you can still pass a visual inspection with gutted cats.

 

If you have a sniff test, you will need to keep the cats. The AS&M's require you to cut 1/4" in front of the cats leaving them in place with the stock Y pipe. Of course if you "spool" them in like I did, you will have to run o2 simms. I have the cats back in right now because the o2 simms stopped working. I was really let down at the sound though. There was virtually no change in the exhaust tone after removing the cats. These stock ones flow so well. You can see right through them. But, with the cutouts there, instead of the other location, it's loud as hell. But I'm going to have to put some more cutouts wher the old ones wer to run the electric openers since the openers won't fit in the header cutout location.

 

I don't have a sniff test in my area. So in a nutshell, if I take the cats out, I will needs some O2 simms for the rear sensors even if they are several inches away from the cats?

If you have LS1edit you can delete the codes for the rear O2 sensors also.
