Default Fast 4.8

Hey Greg....I have few questions about your air shocks.

Where did you get them and how much did they cost you?

Do you have an on-board compressor, or how do they work?

Do they work good for towing? I want to be able to tow a car trailer, but my truck won't tow that much with hitting the bumpstops as it sits now.

Did you have to reenforce the shock mounts or anything? Because when they are aired up don't they put a lot of stress on the mounts?

I'm just looking for a cheaper alternative to helper bags.

Thanks,

Chris

What brand shocks did you buy? And are they made for sour truck at stock height, or with the 4" drop? Do you happen to have a part #? I called Autozone and they said they didn't carry any air shocks for my truck.

Thanks,

Chris

They are Gabrial brand. You better tell that guy you talked to to look a little better. I blew one out on a trip over spring break,(my fault) but because of the lifetime warrant, was able to get another pair in Brenham, when I bought them in Alvin. And no, they are for stock height trcks. That is another reason I put the extenders on. They are only about $20 though Aim Industries.

I also need a set of these. Even with my bed empty and towing my car on the trailer it sits about an inch or two lower in the rear compared to the front. Had I not lowered the rear 2", it would look nice and level.

Oh well <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" />

Maybe I can sell my towing package shocks, they only have about 6K miles on them <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" />

My dad has Airlift air springs on his 2500 work truck with an onboard compressor and you can tow/haul anything you want with it. He owns an electric motor repair business, so he hauls huge amounts of weight and that truck is never phased.

OK, I got them at utozone for about $60 with a lifetime warranty. No I don't have an onboard compressor. I just ran the air valve stem under the back bumper, dilled a hole and mounted it thee. I carry a little air comprssor with me in the tool box. They work great for towing. I run them at 100psi when I tow and 8 to 10 psi when I don't. The only thing I have done extra with the shocks, was I put shock extenderes on because, even at 8 psi, the shocks will raise the bed up an inch or so, with the 4" rear drop. Stock height or 2" lowered guys should not have a problem. Now I tow that 6200# travel trailer with a weight distribution hitch but with out air in the shocks, I'll slam my bumpstops. I think they will work out great, and are pretty cheap too. If you want to tow 4500+ pounds, I would try the shocks first and consider the addition of a weight distribution hitch. With my setup, I have no sag even with the 4" drop.

Hey Fast4.8 I am going to make this purchase by the middle of August and I just had a few other questions.

How do they ride not aired up with out a load? I am trying to decide between these and just a drop shock with AirRide helper bags.

Do you seperate valves to fill up each shock? Or do you have them "T"ed together to just have a single valve?

They are tied together and I keep about 8 psi in them unloaded. Remember, I do have shock extenders.
