How much did the Z06 cam help your truck? Your reply said you were running 15.0's before the cam install. I have considered the same cam for my truck.

I don't think the cam is known to be real strong in the trucks. It seems to only make power way up high, not something we want in heavy trucks. Maybe someone else with the z06 cam will come in and speak up.

Yep, Flyer is exactly right. I used the 01 Z06 cam in the stroker motor due to cheap price and good application for the motor design ( stroker really enhances low end trq ). The 02 Z06 cam is designed for even more top end power. You would see a difference in the trucks at higher speeds and RPM's but due to the large weight of the trucks this is not necessarily the best bet.

The cam worked ok but I didn't really like it much. It really didn't feel strong till well into 4k rpm and right around 5k it really started to rip. That was way too high for me.

I then swapped to the 226 cam and with custom tuning it really ripped. It still cam on high but not as high as the Z06 cam due to the tighter LSA. My best MPH with the z06 cam was about 93.5mph my best on the 226 cam with tuning was 97mph. Remember that with your mods I was only trapping 90mph or so. I just rev the crap out of my truck at the strip. If you look at my usable powerband at the strip, the mods gave me anywhere from 43-100rwhp more than I had before in that powerband. Meaning at 6100rpm I had 205rwhp stock, with the cam and headers I had 304rwhp BEFORE tunning. By 6500rpm I am well over 100rwhp more than stock. It's all about choosing a powerband and sticking all the power you can into it.

The 226 needed some real good tuning though as it wouldn't even idle on it's own. It had the coolest lope to it while sitting at a stop light also.

If you plan on doing a larger stall like a 3000rpm unit then I would say ****** up a 220-226cam, low lift, 112 LSA and get it tuned. You'll love it.

Ohh, you defiantely need headers with a big cam

not tying to hyjack but i was thinking about 2 cams to use with the trailblazer stall, and i see you have the same stall (lee green). how do you think they would work(FL8 Z71).

What were your mods when you were running 14.29 N/A? I am trying to determine what additional work I will need to get my truck to low 14's N/A, and how much nitrous I will need to get into the 12's.

Ladiesman, I'm not a cam guru so I can't really advise. I would pick the bottom cam as it seems the best N/A cams tend to be in the 112LSA range which brings the peak down in RPM also. I'm sure one of the other guys like BigTex could advise better.

Lee Green, I had a Volant intake, electric fans, home ported TB, 226cam, AS&M headers, gutted stock cats, stock exhaust with a magnaflow muffler, TR55 plugs gapped @ .055, Yank TT3000, stock 3.73 gears and stock 265/75/16 tires, custom tuning and a race weight of 4900lbs I believe.

Tib, yes it was an 02' Z06. The 01' would have probably been better and I might have gotten more on a more intense tune but it just didn't feel as good as the 226 cam yet the 226 did require some serious tuning to get it to idle and drive right.

the zo6 cam is way to small for a 6.3 liter stroke motor which will (depending on setup) be used for massive amounts of torque of hp netiher of which that cam is designed to produce. secondly i have driven trucks with that particular cam in it and yeah you lose about 3-5 torque but gain 35 rwhp at least it is a good cam and if you have head work will pull like an oxe after your power band hits for a 5.3 is it the best cam i have heard of people going with a 212/218 and going back to the zo6 cam because of the idle and the fact that if you dont want to you dont have to have it tuned (necessarily it is still recommended). so overall dont let anybody disuade you from that cam it is great but remember your cam depends on what kind of speed you want a lot of low end highway race or whatever hope this helps
