edit: damn these people are great. he said it would only take an hour, they open at 8, and it would be 160 cash for the 3" Y. i wonder why they want it in cash, maybe there really is some federal law about the cats and chosing not to install them. o well. im happy now.

No problem...yeah now that I think about it, I do remember paying in cash...

ummm.... there is major fines for these shops if they get caught doing this... everyone might want to edit their posts to remove the name and phone numbers of the shops missing, just PM them to keep it away from prying eyes, if all of these places get busted because of public posting you can bet no one in the state is gonna make an ORY

Actually it's not illegal to fabricate an ORY for a vehicle as long as it doesn't have a catalyst(s) when you bring the vehicle in. If you bring it in with cats it has to leave with cats, otherwise it's fair game to work on. That's the Federal mandate, so unless you have a State mandate that is more stringent or you have smog testing, He could have done it.

Something else to try....if the places give you issues about letting your truck go without cats, ask them to build the pipe for you but don't install it. I was asking around and got the same responses, they wouldn't touch it, etc etc until I started asking if they would build the pipe for me, then put it in the back of the truck and return the truck to me in the same condition as when I brought it in. They seem better about that, because then they technically aren't working on your truck, they are building you a pipe, and if they don't install it for you they can say that they don't know what it was for, they didn't modify your truck, etc etc.
