Default F-body e-fan help

i just installed my e fans with a ratt ron (gmfullsize.com) harness. i had some questions about where to tap into the ac wire so i went to the nelson performance site and found their instructions which showed where the ac wire is located.

i found a green wire with a white stripe that tested 12v when ac switched on and nothing when switched off. perfect, right? no. when i spliced the high speed fan wire into it then neither the ac or the high speed fans would come on. took the wire off and the ac worked fine. put the hs fan wire on the pos bat terminal and the hs fans come on like they should. i'm about to give up and put the hs fans on a switch. anyone experienced this? what can i do to get it working the right way, i really don't want to put high speed on a switch.
