Default Exhaust Theory 101

I have a couple of exhaust-related questions:

1. What is the collector size of the AS&M headers? The primaries are listed as 1 3/4" but I haven't found info on the collector size.

2. If I were to replace my current exhaust setup with a system including the AS&M headers, high flow cats, and straight pipes all the way back to Supertrapps (and maybe throw in an X-pipe for good measure), in which the muffler would be at the back of the truck, in theory would that mean more cab noise? I'm thinking it might flow well and I like the Supertrapp tunability concept, but it may be downright intolerable when it comes to decibel levels.

I can't afford to do any exhaust mods in the near future, but I just thought I'd ask for learning purposes. Thank you for any thoughts.

not sure what the exact size is, seems like it is 2 1/2" or just a hair bigger, not anyware near 3". the colector size is exactly the same size as the pipe going into your cats.

no matter what if you start messing with the exhaust it will get louder in the cab, maybe a little maybe alot, i have a super trap on my bike and it is insanely loud but if you have cats on there also it might be ok, it all depends on what you like.

i have the ASM headers, with true dual 3" all the way out the stock location and no cats, i used a pair of huge turbo mufflers thinking that would keep the sound down some and everyone that has heard it says it sounds bad *** but i think it is a little too loud, some people think just throwing on a catback makes too much noise. i have heard the stock cats flow prety well but i can't say for sure.

The AS&M collectors are 2.5" but, only measure 2 3/8" at there smallest point.

Here is a pic.

Hey where's the rest of the header.

If the exhaust sounds good but, is too loud in the cab you could always use some Dnyamat or some other sorta sound deadening material underneath the carpet. Any stereo shop should carry that stuff.

Very cool! Thanks for the thoughts and the pic, this was very helpful. I realized after I posted that volume levels are going to be dependent on the perception of whomever is listening. I guess the one person I really should be concerned with is the police officers that hear it...

Thanks again!

watch out! isn't the dynamat stuff pretty heavy? wouldn't wanna put too much ET robbing mat in there.

as for the police, if they pull you over for yur exaust being too loud just say "what's that officer? i can't hear you"

You make a good point, crazy! Maybe I should just rip out the carpet and put in a set of ear plugs - I'll drop some weight and the noise won't be a problem! Ear plugs - another free mod?
