wat do straight pipes sound like good or bad loud or exesivly loud? how far back you go with pipes

I used to have a true dual with straight pipes after the cats, but I was losing power. Sounded damn good though. Got Dynomax Super Turbos on it now and it runs good. Although with the straight pipes you could hear me get on it at about a mile away. What I want to know is how are ya'll running straight pipes and straight through mufflers without losing power.

Just cut out the muffler and replace it with an STS muffler. Best damn muffler I've ever put on anything.
