Question Exhaust and air intake

I have a 1999 Chevy Silverado V8 5.3/EC/SB truck and I'm trying to figure out what would be the best exhaust system and air intake system for my truck at an affordable price. The main thing is that I want more power, but I also want my exhaust to have a deep, loud noise. I'm currently looking at www.performancecombos.com for there products because they seem to be pretty affordable. Can anyone give me any suggestions? Thanks.

i have pretty much the same truck as you do. i will give some suggestions, but it all depends on personal preference and how much money you want to spend. a good place to start would be exhaust and intake like you mentioned. any intake will work (K&N, volant, UPD, etc...). for exhaust, if you don't want to spend too much money for a catback, i probably would go for a magnaflow. if you want to spend a bit more, i like corsa or B&B triflo. next thing you probably want to do is a custom tune. you could get into it alot more depending on what you want to spend. LT headers might be another good bolt on, plus it will help with the sound and performance you want. i would try one of our sponsors here for purchasing. Tom at Tbyrne will price match. here is the link:

truckperformance.com was a good place to deal with both times ive ordered from them, but you will have to pay sales tax and shipping......kinda lame imo.

i would order out of state.

for exhaust. you cant go wrong with a magnaflow catback, but they are overly loud. im gonna buy one this week i think from full line exhuast. 377 shipped, cant beat that.

for intake, there are a ton out there. lots of people are reporting problems with the FIPK fitting correctly. i have a UPD, which i bought for 100 bux used. i wouldnt pay the $200 + price tag for one new. i like it, but thats way too much for it. the true flow intake looks like a good one if its less than 200. IMO volant is probably the best, but at 300 bux is alot of money.

for a real kick, you could spend 400 on a nelson tune and get more power than the intake and exhaust would have given you.

price not in consideration, i'd say corsa with volant and ram air tube. with price as an issue, i'd say edelbrock or flowmaster cat back with k and n fipk. deffinitly get a tune if you can, it's a huge improvement.

Thanks. Well I ended up getting a magnaflow stainless steel rear exit dual exhaust system with an AFE air intake kit. Next to come, will be the custom tune and headers. They said I should recieve my order within a few days. I'll keep everyone posted and let you know how it all turns out.

if you do a header install. let me know how it goes. i am reluctant on doing it since i have a '99 and i am assuming that i might break the head off a rusty bolt trying to get the manifold off

You said that well! If price is a consideration the Magnaflow exhaust with a Volant would be a good choice. We have the Volants on sale for $239. this week so that would save some $.
