Default Evaporative module? where is it?

As some of you know I am putting a 6.0L Lq4 in my 1990 truck.

My guys are telling me that the engine needs an evaporative module (Air pump or sorts) to run right. The wrecker yard is willing to try to locate one for me as park of my package but they have never heard of it before...don't know what it looks like, don't know exactly where it would be in the 2004 k2500 engine bay or what it might be attached to.

Two questions...

1. Do I really need this part?

2. Any help with where it is and what it looks like and so forth would be greatly appreciated.

Many Thanks

We didnt hook ours up.. The purpose of it is to pull fumes out of the gas tank and then send them in to the intake.. Our truck didnt have one to start with so why add it now.. I think we did look and it has a place for fumes to escape on it but not 100% sure..

How will my engine run without it? Will I lose something like power or mpg or worse have trouble with sensors if I just don't get one and hook it up?

Thanks

Are they referring to the EVAP system which includes the charcoal cannnister, purge valve, tank pressure valve, etc.? If so, it's not needed for performance, it's an emission control system that stores and recylcles evaporative emissions from the gas tank. You should be able to work your way around it with tuning I would assume.

on your current truck, it's on the right hand side, with two really small hoses going into it. I used to get plumed into your TB. Don't worry about it

if youre in california youd better hook it up or it wont smog. i dont know what other states adopted ca. emissions laws, but i know theres a few. as far as i know its a federal standard for every car to have one. without it your pretty much dumping raw fuel into the atmosphere, the charcoal canister takes those fumes and sends it back up to the intake or wherever depending on the make/model. i used to work on jags and the system was so sensitive that it would set a check engine light if the canister got cracked from road debris or rocks or something. if youre not in california or similar state id say you dont have to worry about it, and it wont effect your performance at all

I am in Utah and the guy that is reprogramming the computer says he usually takes this part out of the emissions controls. My kit truck has to pass 1990 emissions standards. So hopefully I am ok there.
