Never heard of anyone swapping in a 6.0 before, you'd be the first...when you do it you could start a thread for others to "search" for if they consider the swap

Yes, the 6.0 swap is a good choice.

I did mine cuz my 5.3 had 183,000 on it, still ran strong, but with wanting to go FI i wanted a low mileage motor.

I could tell the torque difference right away.

The 6.0 " drops" right in. Same physical outside size as the 4.8 and 5.3

Heres my advice:

If your current 5.3 is in good shape and runs well, i would cam it, put LT headers / exhaust and tune. Maybe some FI if you can.

But if its high miles, or you have a 6.0 sitting around then swap.

Its just a bit of work, not too hard, but its work to swap, easier to put bolt ons on your 5.3 and be happy.

If your going for max power though, The 6.0 is > than 5.3.

I loved my 5.3 in my old Turbo Z71. It ran damn strong!

Well, it is more trouble than it is worth to begin with. I went to the dealership to have one put in, and they said there was no way the electronics would be compatiable. So I went backwards in technology and switched to a carb setup. Modern fuel injection is for the birds.

Huh? It's an easy swap and the guys at the dealership that you went to are tools, all of your 5.3/4.8 electronics swap right over. I've had many carbureted hot rods, and I'll take electronic fuel injection any day...so much easier to fine tune and so much more reliable, especially when you turn the key on a cold morning and it starts right up and runs like a champ.

imo. if your 5.3 is low on miles and still runs strong build that 5.3 up. if its old and tired 6.0 is the way to go..

x2 well said. My lq9 fires up with a half of a turn cycle, and within seconds I am doing 80-90+ mph on the freeway on my way to work. I live that close to the freeway. LOL

I personally think all mechanics are tools. If you are unable to work on your own crap, then you dont deserve your POS in my world. The only time a "mechanic" touches my stuff, is for 4wheel alignment, and the computer assists them with this procedure.
