Here is the situation, engine is a 4.8 stock just an intake and headers no internal modifications with 60K miles, just did an oil change with 5-30w oil, used about 5.5 quarts of oil and about .5 quarts of Lucas oil stabilizer.

The noise might have been there before the oil change but I just didn't notice it until afterwards. Now when its warm I get this ticking noise at idle, does not sound like a knock and it seems like it happens at camshaft speed. If I bring the RPMS up about 1300 the noise goes away, when I let it idle the noise takes about 10 seconds to come back. Also when shifting to Reverse or Drive from Park the noise goes away and about 10 seconds later the noise comes back. No driveabilty issues whatsoever, still has power, well 4.8 power, no rough idle or any misfires. Sorry for the long thread any help appreciated.

 

i know what your talkin about mine does the same thing. mine didnt do it till i put a programer on it and it also brought up a idle code

 

This is a common occurance. I've worked for GM for 11 years now and since the implementation of the Gen III engines in 1999, this has existed. GM says it's the nature of the beast. Call it what you want but it'll be there for ever! Put a set of long tube headers on it and it'll become more pronounced.

 

What he said!! My valvetrain noise went up exponentially when i put on the LT's and ORY. I never heard it with the stock exhaust manifolds or JBA shorties. It's probably the thing that irritates me most about the Pacesetters. It almost sounds like a "dieseling" noise, but not quite

 

I was wondering what that noise was when i installed my PaceSetters a couple days ago, now I know. Its like you can hear the inside of the engine

 

I've the same deal. I just got a louder muffler so I wouldn't hear it as much lol. A cam would cure it too

 

dam i just bought some longtubes it aint gonna hurt it rite

 

It won't hurt it, you'll just hear it more as aftermarket headers have thinner wall metal than the factory exhaust manifolds so you just hear the noise more. My truck ticks and taps like crazy since day 1. I heard it more after I installed my shorties, and even more after installing my LT's.

My dads truck does that when it is cold. the dealership just said that it was normal.
