play russian roulette... thats about the gamble you are taking on the trans... I wouldnt worry about a thing on that motor though... it has plenty of life. I have gone through 4 trannies though and my truck still has less than 100K..

storm5.3 has 220k on his motor and running it hard, he has since sold the truck and the new owner will enjoy many years with the motor, now the trans is another story lol

im at 182k on my 4.8 and i've been usin a 50 shot here and there. it still runs strong and i drive the crap out of it. my trans gave out on me at around 165k (rear planitarys blew up) im pretty sure it would have lasted a lil longer if i could have kept myself from juicin down 59 after some people racin so i could get some too..

I've got 180K on my 5.3 and Blackstone labs tell me it is wearing like it has 30K on it. I plan on driving it well past 200K Tranny is another story. It started slipping 2-3 shift at 140K. I had FLT build it to level 4 and have been beating the snot out of my Tahoe since then Along with a new PI TC and a custom tune with very little TM.

would it be worth it to start modding an ls motor with this many miles already
i.e. forced induction

and start building a replacement 80E tranny

i'd go for it... from what ive noticed a motor would be cheaper than the tranny. all u gotta do is find a block (6.0) and use all ur 4.8 stuff including bolt ons. all compatable
