Crank is not out yet. I'm waiting on that darn T-40 plus bit for the ATI balancer so I can pull it then I can check the upper sides of the bearings especially the thrust to see what type of ware it has. I will update with pics too.

Tore it all down to check everything. Please take a look and comment on anything you see wrong. Does look like there was a lube issue on initial start up break in. I believe the over fueling and combination of not priming the oil system wreaked havoc. I am thinking of replacing the main and rod bearings and putting it back together. Cam bearings look fine. I will make sure thrust bearing clearance is in spec and set correctly.

If I had to guess I think it is a clearance issue. I dont think it was caused by overfueling or lack of priming. Can you take a pic of the area on the crank where the thrust bearing rides? A couple things that could be of concern is the rust where the main cap seats. If there is corrosion there, it might not let the cap fully seat making the clearance too much, but that still shouldnt be your problem. It just indicates that the block might have set long enough for corrosion to start. If corrosion is there, there could have been some under the thrust bearing. At minimum I would do all the bearings, remove all the rings for cleaning, clean all of the oil gallies thoroughly, and clean the snot out of anything that could have had oil on it like the inside of the oil pump etc. For $100 you can even get a new one. You could also hit the cylinder walls lightly with a hone. Is the scuff in the cylinder very deep? It doesnt look deep from the pics.

I will get a close up pic of the crank when I get home. The scuff is not deep at all, I cant feel it when I run my fingernail over it. The crank I'm using is a Callies Dragon Slayer, Do these cranks normally need to be worked over to have proper clearance with the thrust bearing? I did not build the motor, so I don't know what the thrust clearance and end play was. Thanks for the help.

#3 Thrust bearing journal, does the thrust contact area need to be polished better?

Well last night I ordered Callies coated main bearings and some rod bearings. I also decided to order a 320grit dingle ball hone to lightly hit the cylinders. Once bearings arrive I will get all the measurements checked.

sorry for your troubles. Are you planning to measure the clearances yourself? Its really easy with the right tools. Check Amazon for good deals on dial bore gauges and micrometers.

Those main bearings are trashed. You need to check the main journals out for out of round and taper. Something is wrong there. Also why are the rod bearings two different bearings?

A couple things concern me.

It looks like you have a couple rod bearings that might have dis-coloration. They appear black.

Are these special bearings or are they heated up??? If burned, the rod ends need to be checked as well as the crank for size. Something maybe out of round.

The piston that is scuffed I would replace.

Also make sure the ends of the rings are deburred. That's most likely why your cylinder walls are all scuffed up.
