Electric fan wiring?
#1
Just got an LT1 electric fan and need help with how to wire it? Can i just go to O'reilly's or somethin to get a wiring harness. You guys have any pics or anythin to help out. I think i just want to run a relay switch to the cab and just turn it on and off whenever. I don't think i want to mess with the thermostat stuff. What do you guys think?

Get a relay with a built in thermostat, the fans will go on and off without you even having to think about it. At first, I was just going to switch them too but I decided to use a stat after several repsonses saying that. I got mine from Kragan's, it's a relay with a stat built right in it. I didn't like the kit from AutoZone, the relay and stat were seperate and had to be wired together. The kit came with an inline fuse for one fan, I had to buy another inline fuse to run both the fans, and all the wiring needed. It was pretty straight forward. You hook one ground wire to each fan (the LT1 fans only have two terminals) and you'll have a ground wire from the relay. I used the grounding bolt straight down on in the trucks frame in front of the engine for all the grounds. Each fan will have a fused power wire, you'll have an ignition on power wire and a constant battery hot power wire. I used an empty slot in the fuse box that's under the hood for the ignition on power wire. There is a red battery box on the drivers side of the engine you can use for the battery constant hot power wire. That's it I think, it's not bad to do at all. My relay kit came with good instructions, easy to follow.

The relay and t-stat were seperate kits and had to be wired together, I never tried PepBoys. Isn't Kragan's also Checker's and another brand depending where it's at in the US? The Kragan trucks in my area have three names on the sides of them. Like I said, I'll get the brand name of the part, then it can be looked up to see who sells it.
