big tex,, i dont wanna sound like a moron, but are your fans sucking air through the radiator, or did you accidently wire it backwards? my 282s and 6.0 radiator setup run a constaint 172 degrees and my fans dont even come on. if i tow a trailer in second gear at 40 miles per hour, i noticed it went up to about 185. however as soon as i went into 3rd or od, the temps went back down quick. The hottest ive ever seen it get was at the track the other night, it got up to around 200 once. but that was after 2 races in a row with no cool down time.

The ONLY time I had cooling problems with the new truck was with the underdrive pulley. It would creep up when I would sit and idle for a while. I have the bigger radiator in this truck and a 160* t-stat. My temperature holds steady ... all the time. I have never seen it creep up.

The black truck on the other hand ... it would only hold what should have been with the 160* stat when it was moving. I always thought it was because of the blower and being black, but I dunno, I think the bigger radiator makes the biggest difference of all.

What is your trans temp? Maybe the trans fluid is so hot it won't let the radiator cool the water enough.

No problems keeping things cool while sitting still in traffic on 100 degree days with the A/C on.

One little gripe about the controller clicking on/off when it reaches the turn off point but, other than that no problems so far.
This fits my situation and opinion perfectly.

Big Tex, what type of fans are you running?

I have had bad luck with flex-a-lite. Basically the fans were drawing too much current, way too much. They would cool ok but melt fuse holders...= bad.

I had two 14" permacool fans that I ran in my '98 and I have installed them in the flex-a-lite shroud. I have the pcm turning them on at 180 and I'm using a GM relay to trigger them. With a 160 thermo, the fans only come on when I am at a stop and seem to keep the temps around 185 - 190.
But this summer will be the true test......

Mwalls - I've had battery issues. Several times I have gone out to start it andits been dead. I thought it was the VSC that comes with the 282 fans draining the batt over night. I removed the VSC, hard wired a standard auto relay, and set the PCM to control on/off with LS1 edit. Unfortunately, It happened again, so I think it was my cell phone charger drawing the current.

L82 - I had that big fuse that came with the Flexalite fans melt last week. Temps got into the 240 range and when I checked out the fuse, the fuse holder had melted but the fuse hadn't blown. Stupid.

bigguy - I'm going to check all the fan stuff this afternoon. Since I had to rewire them recently to remove the controller, I may have something wrong.

Thanks for the input guys. I'll report back later on my issue.

Go to a car audio shop and purchase an AGU fuse holder and a 60 amp AGU fuse. You should never have to worry about melting it unless the fans have a serious problem.

LAUST - I can't complain about the looks of my flexalite fans either. I think it is a very well made setup.

retsell - I'll look into the car audio fuse holder. I'm sure that will do the trick.

My setup work great! I am very pleased with how they look and work.
BTW, I have LS1 fans with the Flex-a-lite VSC.

Let the flames begin.

I had one fan wired push, the other to pull. So it was just circulating hot air through the radiator.

I had them wired to low speed a few weeks back, and when I rewired them back to full speed, I messed up one of them. So its only been that way for a few weeks.

Congrats! That's great that you found the problem. Don't let it bug you - it could happen to anyone.
