Default electric fan control. suggestions!

I have the 295 Flex-a-lite fans for my 5.3L . I love them. They fit perfect. The only problem is that I have been having them for about 8 months, and this is the second time that I am idling for about 15 minutes and the control module will not turn the fan on at the right temp. I called flexalite and they sent me another "new and improved" version. Well I was tuning my stereo system with my time alignment processor, and 15-20 minutes of idling, my big orange light comes on! Temperature overheat or some **** like that. 260 degrees! Anyway, lucky I had a relay and hardwired it to my ignition with the wires that were already on the fan control module. By the way, everytime I pull out one of the female disconnects from the male disconnects on the module whenever i bypass it, the module is so hot, the male spade pulls straight out of the board with the female! Anyway what is another brand name module. I love my fans I just hate the module. I didn't want to relay it with ignition because it would take forever to heat up in the mornings. I would like some kind of temperature sensor module or something.

Sorry for being long winded, but I wanted to warn you by giving you this info, and ask for help also.

I do not want to give flexalite a bad name because I would buy there fans again if I had to do it all over again. They fit PERFECT in my truck with slight modification to the lower brackets. Other than that they fit perfect. I just want you to inquire about the module if you are thinking about purchasing these.
Thanks for you suggestions on other modules.

Something is up, you might want to re-check some of your wiring. I haven't had a problem at all with my vsc and would run it again no matter what brand of e-fan I was running. I've had my fans in almost a year now. I think XLR8NSS has had great luck with the vsc also. How did you wire it into your truck and where did you mount the vsc?

i use the VSC along with a 160 stat. i wish mine would turn on sooner but even after a extended idle my truck still runs cool enough for no warning light. hell, it never gets over 190 degrees. i don't even have a hard wire for it yet to turn it on manually.

I use the VSC also. I had a little problem with them on my old truck, but Flex-A-Lite replaced the controller at no cost to me and all is good now.

Make sure you are using heavy wires, they pull a lot of juice and if you use anything smaller than 12-10 gauge it will definantly heat the wires up. I would use 10 gauge if the longest wire was over 2 feet long, if everything is shorter than that, 12 should be ok. Make sure you have good connections also, lots of juice through crappy connections will cause lots of heat too.

goshawk23, I'm in the same boat you are .. My temp holds a steady 176-180 with my 160* t-stat. The fan controller is turned all the way down also, so I dunno what to do.

Hey Flyer what kind of problem did you have. I have been considering the flexalite 282 fan for my truck, but the last thing I need is more problems. LOL...all in all have they been worth it?? Thanks

You don`t want the truck to run any cooler than 190* thats already too cool. Too low is bad for wear. You don`t want the truck down as far as the t-stat thats just to get it up to temp. 190-210 is perfect operation temp. With the right tune it should run best there.

BADMOFO it wasn't anything to bad .. well kinda. Sometimes the fans just didn't kick on. I would notice it when the AC was so I couldn't hear the fans and would think something was up. Since I had the cooler thermo in the truck it gave me some time to get it moving before it would start to over heat which gave me time to get somewhere to check it out. I don't know what it was, sometimes they would just do that, and I could hook the fans up directly for a few mionutes and then hook the controller back up and it would work fine.

Flex-A-Lite sent me a new controller and all is good now. The problem did correct itself too. I never put the new controller on the old truck, I ran the old one for a while. When the fans went on the new truck I used the new controller.

I actually got complemented on my fans by a mechanic at the dealer. He said he liked them alot and that it really cleans up the engine compartment. I mentioned it was easier to work on and he eagerly agreed that the stock fan shroud and fan was a royal PITA.

I wonder why GM doesn't include electric fans as OE equpment on trucks? Do they not pull enough CFM to cool when towing at GVW maybe?

Hell fuel economy goes up and it is waaaaay easier to work around too.
