Default EGR mod

i'm sure you all know about the free EGR mod that you can do to our engines. well me and my friend just did it to his 2001 4.8L. Then we go to do it on my 2002 4.8L. Pop the hood and there is no hose or anything there, just a silver metal piece. Is it supposed to be like this? If so, why did they have them in 2001 and not 2002. If not, would this cause any problems?

They made a few changes in the 2002 models. One of the changes was the EGR delete. I think this along with a couple of other things, made the trucks ULEV. Ultra low emissions vehicle. You got lucky!

This is an emissions control technique for reducing oxides of nitrogen emissions in the tailpipe. A small amount of exhaust gas is recirculated back into the intake manifold to dilute the incoming air/fuel mixture. Contrary to what you'd think, it has a cooling effect on combustion temperatures that helps reduce the formation of oxides of nitrogen (See NoX). The EGR valve is the main control device in this system.
