EGR delete
#1
I want to block off my EGR on my 85 Chevy pick-up. Is there any benefit in doing this? Or, Will this hurt anything?
I'm trying to do a little clean up under the hood. There's hoses and wires everywhere. I thought this old truck was supposed to be more simple to work on.

Well it is 22 years old, I'm 32. It's old to me. I was in 5th grade when it was new.
I just want to remove it because it's in the way when I want to take the valve covers off.
Will it hurt anything by blocking it?
Thanks,
Mike

Your NOx emissions and cylinder temperatures will increase and you may experience pinging (detonation). You may have to retard to timing to compensate, which will hurt performance. The older gen sbc's that came with EGR from the factory are tuned with EGR in mind...I suppose that a good tuner with the proper software could compensate for the EGR deletion if you're really dead set on it.

I wasn't bustin your ***** about the old thing...it is old, I was laughing at me really...'85 is old.
ANyway, what budhayes3 says! Even in the newer trucks that have egr, it's in the tune, you'd need to address it in there as well.

Thanks for the replies guys.
I'm not really worried about performance on this truck. It's my work vehicle. I probably will have to retard the timing(the OLD fassion way), being that there's no computer LOL.
I did find an EGR block off plate on Summit and JEGS for $11.99. But the shipping is $11.99 also!!!
I hate when they do that.
dewmanshu, No offence taken
I did have to go and make sure I typed "85" instead of "95" ( I do that sometimes)
