Can I bet 5 bucks the camshaft is not pitted?

Lifters can just make noise without damaging stuff.

Thanks for the response guys. I am hoping the cam and the pushrods are still good to go. I can resell the new cam and pushrods, if mine is still good. But I didn't want to be half way through the project to find out that I needed them. Plus I should mention, that the cam I'm running currently, was a used cam that I bought from a guy that had ran it for 50k miles. I have now put 80k on it. So it does have 130k on it. I'm just being prepared. I'll let you guys know how it goes. I'm hoping to do it this weekend.

Well I tore it down today. Started at the flexplate with no luck. Tore the valve covers off, and everything felt good. Removed the pushrods, and they all looked good. But I found the intake valve tip on cylinder 7 to be worn down. So I preceded to remove the heads. Found intake lifter on cylinder 7 to be stuck about 1/16 of an inch lower than all of the others. It was definitely collapsed. After working it with a pushrod for a bit, I got it freed up. I disassemble the lifter and found a few black flakes of something inside of it. So I'm glad to say I found my problem. Going to pull the cam tomorrow. I'm too tired to go any further tonight.

Glad I tore it down. Camshaft was getting pretty bad on that lobe too. Caught it just in time I'd say.

Dang, lost my $5 internet bet against myself.

Funny spot for a cam failure, it's always the top of the lobe that eats away and the lifter roller still looks good lol.

Lol. Yeah it's really weird. I think maybe because the lifter collapsed where it did, that that's where it first made contact with the cam again or something. I almost didn't pull it honestly. I figured with that little of lifter damage, that the cam would be good. I'm glad I pulled it out.
