Ok we are gonna order the eaton posi soon for my dads 04 1500 auto 4.8 silverado 4x4 w/ 3.73s. Anyone have the P/N for me? Wheres the best place to order it? What other parts for the install do I need?

also look on ebay for some good deals. i bought my ring and pinion, installation kit, and eaton for $530.

 

The 99-up trucks just reuse the stock size bearing, so you dont need anything special. The 98-earlier trucks need a bearing with a larger ID.

here's what you need to keep in mind when you are buying an installation kit or bearings...
*This Eaton limited slip differential requires special bearings. For axles with small bearing bores (race O.D. of 2.89"), usually found on vehicles prior to 1999, bearing LM-102949 and race LM-102911 are required. For axles with large bearing bores (race O.D. of 3.06"), usually found on vehicles from 1999 to present, bearing LM-603049 and race LM-603012 are required.

 

The 99-up trucks use that bearing already, so it is just a regular kit, no special pieces. The earlier rears use a special bearing for the larger hub diameter. I am pointing this out so he does not buy a kit and also those bearings on the side, they will already be in the kit. In 99 gm increased the hub diameter on the diff case to help keep the diff bearing from being spun. Eaton had already done that to all their aftermarket posi's years before (as well as the Auburn Pro series), so these diffs work with no changes in 99-up trucks, and a bearing change in 98-earlier trucks. Since he is buying this for an 04 truck this will work with stock bearing sizes, no special parts required.

I plan to do gears, posi at the same time. Im going to have a shop install them for me, but id like to order parts online to save some money. What should instal price be? They quoted me 1000 bucks for the gears, posi, and instal?
