Yea haha I'm doing the same setup as budhayes here. I can tell you this. It will cost at least 800 bucks to got the 2005 fans route...I happened to get my 05 fans brand new on ebay for only 120...but the you need the 34 radiator, 250, the harness, $100 frm nelson, and the tune about 400 from nelson (may as well get the whole damn tune if your going to get it, I mean i dont think he would charge any diff just to tune pin #42 for the fans to turn on)...yea and you eventually need the alternator... sometimes i wonder if its REALLY worth it...

Yea it is big bucks, but as far as being worth it, I guess that all depends. Bang for buck-wise...eh, maybe not. Coolness meter-wise, definitely IMO. I wanted to upgrade to the 34" rad anyway, so that made the 05 route a no brainer for me. I'm a big fan of factory parts that will bolt right in and look OEM too.

E-fans in general are a nice upgrade that can be obtained on a few different price levels. I really like that I can optimize my 160* t-stat through e-fan control and having the PCM tuned accordingly, but that can be obtained with less expensive LS1 fans or Flex-a-Lite aftermarket e-fans also. (FWIW, my fans are set to come on at 180* and off at 173*)

I actually did the larger alternator prior to the efan install, but it's not necessary. tdrumm is running the same efan setup with the factory 105 amp alt. (I got the alternator from G&R also...can't provide a direct link because they aren't a sponsor)
I am running the 05 efans with the 105 amp alternator also with no problems.

Looking at METALMULISHA777's pics just reminded me of another note...if you do go the 05 e-fan route and have a K&N FIPK for a 1500, the heat shield will need to be modified to clear the radiator. The spot where the heat shield bolts to the rad support is the same spot where the 34" rad bolts in. Not sure which other CAI's need modification, but I do know that the Volant clears with no problem, and I'm pretty sure that a K&N for a HD will work also.

Think ill be going the ls1 fan route, with a nelson harness, and tune. You don't need a 34" radiator with the ls1 fans right? When he tunes, does he put it on the tow haul mode, or just a differnt set of shift points there? Thanks for all the help guys, this thread has been very helpful.

Did you do anything to mount the fans on the bottom side... I haven't really looked at my fans (unmounted LS1 take offs) or my truck closely...

Yea, for the LS1 fans you don't need to swap radiators. As far as the tune goes, I have mine retuned in all modes (PCMforLess), I really don't mess with tow/haul. I guess you could ask the tuner to make tow/haul into a "race" mode and have the normal settings set differently, I know that's something that I always hear the Wait4Me customers mentioning (tow/haul ****)

Here's a link to an LS1 fan install that should be helpful: http://james.jaguar.net/agreif/fans/fanstech.htm
