E brake help needed asap!!!
#1
Well I was tuneing with my progammer yesterday and I pushed the e brake down since it cuts off the auto headlights. It always has been easy to push all the way down. Well yesterday on the way home the abs and brake idiot lights came on. I stopped put it in neutral pushed the e brake down and released. lights still on. I engaged the e brake again and just idleing was able to roll forward no gas applied. The lights were off when I got in it this morning but appeared about 5 minutes into driving. This happened again after I left the gym. Anyone have any ideas? I ran a code scan and nothing showed up. The rims were slightly warm but not hot to the touch also after driving. This is on a 01 Sierra ext cab 2 wheel drive.
Thanks,

Nope warranty just ran out. I would think that if the abs module went out that the abs light would come on and stay on. Both stay off, even when I hit the breaks, until I'm driving. Also it all started after I used the e-brake twice yesterday and now it does not even hold the truck now.
I'm hopeing that something in the e brake is loose or broken and not giving it the ability to either fully engage the brake or fully retract it. The lights come on at different lengths of time once i'm driving. I thinking that when I'm going down the road a bump causes the sensor to activate and it tells the abs or pcm that the e-brake is engaged.

I just had a idea. I was reprogramming the pcm with some weird tire sizes, told to do from diablo, in order to correct my speedo because of some software problem with the predator that will not be fixed until the next update. Do you think that this triggered my abs and break lights?? I guess I'll be putting the old sizes back in and see what happens.

hey man look right under the driver's side of the truck on the outside of the frame and you will see the ebrake cable running from the front to the back. Maybe it came disconnected or the cable broke somewhere. There is no way the programmer or ABS would cause the ebrake to stop working.

It was the programming I did with the predator. I upgraded my gears to 3.73's a week ago. there is a known problem with the predators with the axle ration selection. They have a work around that involves a weird tire setting. I set the tire settings the way that they told me and that is when I got the abs and break lights. The speedo also showed me running at 55-60 at 2000rpms on the highway in overdrive. he sent me a tune with the correct gear ratio and everything works perfect and no idiot lights.
Thanks for the help,

Nope not yet. since the corrected predator tune fixed the idiot lights I put looking into it off until this weekend. I have a 4month old and a working wife so it's a little hard for me to tackle things during the week. Supposedly according to some bullitins there is a spring that is weak from the factory in the drivers rear wheel. So I'm going to pull the wheel and look a see as well as see if there is an adjustment.
On a side note I did adjust the break pedal, not the e break, and the breaks feel like new again.
With the truck running push the break all the way to the floor and release then stick your foot underneath the pedal and pull up. Now I have no more mushy breaks.
I'll post what I find.
