Default Duration or Lift, whats the difference?

Have 2 comp cam grinds recommended for my set up. 1)216/220 524/530 115lsa 2)214/218 559/563 115lsa. What would the performance/operational difference be between the two? If I am going to upgrade springs/retainers/pushrods etc, is lift better? My understanding is that a longer duration increases overlap, not good for f/a.

Or is the difference between the two grinds too small to matter?

Both cams are supercharger frendly with a 115lsa the second cam has higher lift and less exhaust duration. It looks as if both cams installed straight up will peak around 6300rpm.If I were choosing for your setup I would select the 216/220 cam and install it advanced about 2 degree in an effort to make the power peak about 6000rpm.

Thanks for the opinion, I was actually leaning towards the shorter duration & higher lift option.

Why would you choose the longer duration over the higher lift? Why is duration more desireable than lift?

The lower lift of the two actually has a lot of lift,I was actually thinking that the lower lift would be more durable.I just went with 1.85 SLP rockers amd LS6 valvesprings on my Tahoe. That gave me a pretty good power increase.

I think I will go with the 216/220 524/530 115lsa (longer duration/lower lift) and if I ever think I need more, then go with some higher ratio rockers.

I would ask if they can grind a couple of degrees of advance into the cam to make the power come in lower in the powerband.Compcams is pretty responsive to the customers needs and you probably don't want to rev more than 6300rpm.It never hurts to ask.

whitt1

Thanks for the reponses. Hope to get this order in soon.

You are right, I don't really care to be spending too much time above 6300rpm.
