We need more info. What year truck? LB7 or LLY? How much power do you want to make? Any more than 90 HP and you will need to mod the Allison.

I'll tell ya the Edge with attitude is a very nice setup. It is capable of delivering more power(higher settings) than the stock Allison is capable of handling.

Even on the first setting it makes the truck SO much more driveable. This is on a LLY but, I imagine it is very similiar on a LB7.

As far as air intakes I have no clue.

I've got an 04 with the lly, and I'm currently on my 3rd edge 90 hp chip. I like the power, I get 18-24 mpg depending on how fast and what I'm towing, however I have to keep returning the chips and get another as after a few months they want to either defuel or upfuel too much just before shifting on hard acceleration.
My 3rd one is now doing it, and I guess it may be time to try something else.

The Predator is an excellent option. You can choose between 40, 65, 85 and 100 HP tunes, adjust for larger tires, read & reset codes, full diagnostics and delete the speed limiter. It runs pretty well.

The Predator is an awesome bang for the buck. My last Duramax with the Predator and a straight pipe ran a 8.80 in the 1/8 mile. I've got some for the LLY on the way, they should be here Monday. I currently have nothing done to my new truck (05 CC DRW 4x4) so Im going to put it on the dyno and get some before and after runs. I will be sure to post up the results. Contact me for pricing if you are interested in one.

I had the Predator on my LB7 and it was great, on the 120 setting it would defuel just a tad from a dead stop but then would light the tires up until it shifted into drive. Toweing you will not be using this setting. It has some nice features in which you can change tire size, raise the speed limiter trouble shoot the DTC's.

As far as hurting the Allison... Don't worry about it. An allison mechanic was down at our School Bus Shop and of course I hit him up with some ?'s. The hp is not what hurts it, it is the tq and the Allison mechanic said that our 1000's was limited to 820tq.

Edge and almost every other chip will get you close but not over it... Most important thing is to watch those EGT'S...

This is dead wrong and bad advice. If you mod past 90 additional HP you will hurt the tranny! The Allison will attempt to protect itself with limp mode when it detects clutch pack slip but by that time the damage has already started. The Edge box does has a defuel if it detects slip but again, if it is slipping you are already doing damage. The 5/5 setting can limp the allison with ease.

The Predator has zero tranny protect features. The 100 HP tune can waste the tranny. Unless you are ready to make a 3,000 dollar plus investment in the trans don't run a higher tune!

This is what smoked clutches look like from running too big a tune on the stock trans:

You are correct about keeping an eye on the EGTs, this is very important.

Also to be clear, I was not attacking you Boosted. I just hate when mechanics supply bad information. I don't know what he meant about being limited to 820TQ. Hear are the input specs for the Allison 1000:

Net input power 500 hp (254 kW)
Gross input power 1,2 375 hp (280 kW)
Net input torque 520 lb-ft (705 Nm)
Gross input torque 1 545 lb-ft (740 Nm)

Furthermore, when GM introduced the LLY they upped the torque to over 600 foot pounds. Too keep the Allison happy the engine output is derated in first and fifth gears. Modding an 04.5 or 05 LLY truck will get you in trouble faster than modding an 01 to 04 LB7 truck.

At Suncoast last weekend on my LLY I put down 420 HP & 840 TQ with just the Juice on 5/5 so I don't know what he means with the 820 limit. If you build the Allison to not slip then the TCM will let you run as much power as you can through the trans. I have put down over 1400 foot pounds with my LB7. Granted this is with Suncoast Stage V trannies in both trucks.

Even running a small tune you are leaving power on the table. Get a Suncoast or ATS trans and you won't believe how strong the truck can pull.....
