Exclamation Drove an LLY D-max today!

Got bored today and decided to drive one also. Last D-max I drove was an '03 with the older LB7 motor. The LLY is much more responisive than the LB7 motor. It was very apparent to me that this motor was redesigned.

It also has a cat on it and EGR. I popped the hood and the air intake is slightly different and you can see how the injectors are moved slightly. This truck also has a Garrett variable vane turbo too, that's what helped the low speed/off idle performance I believe.

Just a much better motor, the steering also seemed different on it.

Once I get my *** moved and the house sold, I'll be ordering it. Should be like 8 weeks before I order it. I can't wait. Room, economy, and power. GM got those trucks right.

My dad has one on the way soon, might be about a month or so out. I wish Edge would get the Hot Juice out for it already. That's what I'm getting him for a belated B-Day present.

If I order it within the next 6-8 weeks, I was told it'd take about 6-8 weeks to build. SO I may see if they can locate the exact setup I want (it's going to be a feat but attainable) but I'm fairly confident I'll order it so I don't have to get it after some ******* porter at the dealer speeds around in it.

LOL, I also talked my father into getting one here sometime. He went with for the ride and drove it too (we also both drove that '03 LB7) and had the same reaction I did to it. He needs a truck so I may get him to take over payments on my Z71 and drive that for a year before I give it to my brother. Hell he's only 14 now (15 later this year) so it may work out well that way.

In any event, I'm stoked to get that damed LLY and when I take delivery Edge should have that box out too!

just for the pure turbo whistle i love it! but unfortunately, the reality of the extra power is only in 2-4th gears. it defuels in 1 and 5 as the tranny wont support it.

Yeah I could hear it spoolin' too! Now that I think about it, the truck seemed to pull harder once in 2nd gear. The gearing was pretty close too in the Allison, each upshift it'd be over 2500rpms from like 2 to 3 to 4. It really got with the program!

Is there a way to eliminate the defueling in 1st and 5th?

just with programers. i am sure there will be boxes out soon for those motors seeing how well the edge juice box sold in the LB7 series. also even at 900 ft lbs, the edge guys couldnt get the 2-4 clutches to slip. 1/5 are the weakest ones. just the allison specs.

Well, when I decide to toss in a converter...it only makes sense to replace that C2 pack with the setup Suncoast has to offer. Your money is already spent on labor getting that ***** out from the truck so a few hundred more on a set of clutches and their install isn't bad at all.

I saw an exploded diagram of that tranny online somewhere, and it's actually pretty simple...which is good!

LLY sounds like they made some nice upgrades over the old engine. I wish it would have been available when I bought my truck in december. I really couldn't wait because I needed a truck, but I'm very happy with mine

Planning on ordering mine D/A 2500 HD tonight. Dealership near work said 8-10 weeks. I hope your 6-8 is more like it. Going to see what my dealer says after dinner.
