Default drive belt sizes

Why is it that some people who switch over from the 105 alt to the 145 alt have to switch to a longer belt. then on the other hand there are some people who do not have to get new belts. Is there a reason or are the people who just dont switch just strecth their stock belts more?

The belt for 145 is a longer belt when you look up part #.Reason being that to much belt tension will cause your accessorie bearings to wear out faster.

it's just the different tolerances between engines. The belts have a -5mm+5mm tolerance and the next belt size up is actually only 10mm longer.

From what I have heard, the centerline of the 145 alt sits a wee bit higher than the 105 amp.

cheaper way to upgrade your charge system is to upgrade your ALTs wire. i currently run a 102amp alt with a stereo, fans, bottle heater and other stuff and dont have any issues with charging with the smaller ALT since i used a larger ALT wire
