Hey Bud, do you know what's involved in converting the engine driven fan in our trucks to electric? Are you going with a factory-bought control system of some kind or something aftermarket? I've been thinking about doing an e-fan conversion, too, but I've had reliability with similar conversions on past projects. Also, do you know what it's gonna cost you?

Thanks!

Check out this website for the Magnaflow y-pipe. It costs about $800.

Yup, got it all figured out. I already have the PCMforLess custom tune, and the upgrade to turn the e-fans on was $50. Nelson 3-relay fan harness= $99 shipped. 34" radiator=$237 shipped from Radiator Barn. 05 e-fans=$224 shipped from G&R auto parts I threw in a 160* SLP t-stat for good measure...think it was about $65 shipped. So I guess it was around $700. (If you count the 145amp alternator I installed as part of it, we're up around $800)

You could do basically the same thing and spend a little less if you use ls1 fans, then you wouldn't need to swap the radiator. Just need to get a custom tune and harness, and have the tuner set the PCM to turn on the fans.

creederado did a great write-up on his 05 e-fan install:
Creederado's 05 E-fan Upgrade

(I've referred to this thread many times )

Through what mechanizm does the computer let the fan relays know that it's time to kick in? I mean, I'm assuming it all works on the existing temperature sensing circuit that feeds the computer, and that's fine. But is there an open plug somewhere underhood that this relay harness plugs into?

Also, what do you folks have to say about the flexalite fans that end up being a bit cheaper? Any thoughts? And where might one get hold of the LS-1 fans you mentioned that don't require a radiator upgrade? Is there any reason to think that these would be inadequate?

I really appreciate all the info! Thanks!

You could have a muffler shop weld in replacement cats to the existing y-pipe and you
magnaflow convertors, but if it was mine i'd try and find a used low milage oe pipe.

Have you ever seen the inside of our cats? They don't flow for crap. Hi flow cats are basically unrestricted. GM cats don't even come close to that.
