If you have an automatic it is a 4L60E 4 speed OD.

A 'Vette servo is a pretty popular upgrade for the 700R4/4L60E trannies. They are pretty cheap at about $15 for just the servo and install is pretty straight foreward or around $40 to pay someone. The gains will be very slight with just a servo upgrade alone. A few have gone to billet aluminum servos as they hold the 2-4 band in the trans much better than the 'Vette servo.

The '99 I used to have shifted really crappy. I installed a TransGo shift kit and was day and night difference in shift quality, that was with the stock 2-4 servo. The TransGo is usually around $100 for the kit and about $150 to install. I'd go that route for a far cleaner shifting trans.

It really depends on how much you are willing to spend and if you want to get into the case of the trans... nothing external bolt in or on (like servos or pressure increasers) will fix the setup of the factory valve body.

A good setup would be a TransGo and the 'Vette servo. Very nice shifts and reasonably priced.

Another thing that may rise an eyebrow would the the effect of Torque Managment, it pulls timing and slows your truck's power and shift speeds. I would look into a Diablo Predator programmer for power, raise the really low shift points on the '99's, and to remove or lessen Torque Managment.

The regular 'Vette servo is a factory piece, they are plentiful hence making them cheap.

The trans has on the passanger side of the case a set of apply pistons called servos. They apply and put pressure on the 2-4 band in the trans. There is an intermediate servo (the 'Vette one is) and an OverDrive servo.

Your truck only has two servos. All the ones I listed are options to go with.

The billet ones are made of aluminum and hold far more than the stock 2-4 servo or the 'Vette servo.
