i agree, i didnt replace rods or springs with my LS6 cam and its fine so far, but in the coming month or so ill be doing one of the various 224 cams probably with .581 lift and i understand that regardless you should replace springs and rods and if you're truck is older a new timing chain too...

You should absolutely use a pushrod length checker. Optimal valve and rocker geometry is achieved when the travel of the roller across the tip of the valve stem is exactly in the center of the stem. This can be seen by applying ink to the rocker roller. Adjust the length checker, set the rocker, rotate the engine, check the mark. Repeat. Once you've found the right length you can count how many times the length checker has to be turned to its default position. That will tell you the length to order. Each pushrod length checker is different for the different manufactures. Order the length checker from the same manufacturer you intend to buy your pushrods from.

so you have to have yourengine torn apart for the time it takes to uninstall/reinstall parts and check the length you would need then still torn apart until you get the pushrods to your application? sounds more efficient to call the cam company and just ask what length you need, i know its important because bad things can happen real quick internally in that department so i know its a big deal just seems like there'd be an easier way

Well, this kind of stuff will depend on how much time you have. The pushrods themselves cost the same amount for the perfect length and a close-enough length, the difference is in the cost of the length checker and the extra 5 days you have to wait for it to ship to you.

Here's some eye-candy, I actually practice what I preach sometimes!

haha glad to see you arent just talkin out of no where, and true for me it would be tough to wait the 5 days for shipment with the engine all torn apart, but when you want to be accurate its all worth the power and durability

If you are chaning your springs, for $100.00 or so, you can change your pushrods. It is a no brainer. It is one of the mostest easiest things to do if you change your springs.
