DIY throttle body porting
#1
hey guys, today i decided to port my throttle body on my 5.3 to gain throttle response and hopefully some mpgs. i figured since i had ported my heads already why not take some time and port the throttle body right. needless to say it was about the same technique and basic idea...except a lot less time haha...my heads took about 18 hours! yup took my time and port matched...anyway...the throttle body took 2.5 hours from popping the hood to closing it. i used an end grinder and a porting kit i had purchased to do the heads.started with 80 grit, then 120,then 3m cloth, finally cleaned up with some compressed air and seafoam deep creep. the main things to remeber is to go slow, blend evenly, and stay away from where the throttle blade sits...could cause idle issues...i didnt bother to mess with knife edging the blade.just cleaned it up with 3m cloth.i think it was worth doing as throttle response has improved.too early to se mpgs.other mods include spectre intake, ported heads, pacesetter headers(shorty)they sound great but hopefully going longtubes soon, magnaflow dual exhaust(also sounds awesome!)and a bully dog programmer...yes yes i know i need a tune! dont get me wrong the bully dog works well i just think a good data log tune would wake it up more with the mods i have.so here are some pics.let me know what you guys think and thanks for looking!

To add to where the blade sits...remember that the DBW's move two directions to find idle air. "On the shelf" location of the blade isn't all there is to be considered.
edit: and very nice work btw

yes i did take that into consideration when i was porting...if you just keep your distance from the blade and dont go hog wild you wont have any issues.remember the idea is to take out as little as possible and if its smooth and blended your good to go...my idle has improved actually, it sits around 600 with no fluctuation at all...and thank you for the positive replies guys...i dont have great pics of the heads but i think i have a few[IMG]
