Default dissapointing times at the track

Went to the track today for the first time after having my high stall torque convter installed. Best time was 15.41@86. That is horrible compared to my best last year of 15.01@91.5. Any suggestions? I think it might have to do with my transmission shifting into OD before the end of the track... suggestions? comments?

Truck: 2002 GMC Sierra Z71 Regular Cab Stepside
Current Mods:
Yank TT3000
HPP3 (87 tuning)
JBA Shorty Headers
Corsa Catback
Volant Intake

What was your 60' time on the before/after converter runs? Also...your truck should not be shifting into overdrive unless you are trapping 110+...do you mean it is shifting into 3rd gear?

my 60' time before the converter was 2.2 - 2.3.
Now with the converter launching in Auto4x4 I get consistant 2.0 - 2.1

I do mean 3rd gear, not overdrive..that would just be crazy

I don't mean to insult you or your truck but, I don't think you have enough power to need to launch in 4x4. My truck was running 15.1's and when I tried launching in 4x4 I actually went .3 slower. Have you tried running in just 2wd?

don't worry, I don't take it as an insult... I tried running in just 2wd and spun the first 1/8th mile up in smoke.. it is hard to launch hard for good 60' times with a one-wheeler-peeler

Dont take this wrong, but I think your 15.01 was a freak. Thats one hell of a time for a mildly modded 5.3L.

I usually run in auto 4wd. Sounds like you need a locker. Can you extend your 2-3 shift out any later? If you are shifting into 3rd before the end, you are giving up some.

Neat to see a big converter like that in a 53. truck...

Indulge me...

Suggested run #1:
Next time at the track, since you spun in 2wd, try this: At the line, two foot it and foot stall the throttle up to like 1500-1700, and when you launch take your foot off the brake and floor it but floor it 1/2 as quickly as normal.

Suggested run #2:
Do the same as #1 but this time manually shift the shifts.
