Disable Traction Control

Page 4-11 from 2001 GMC Sierra Owners book...
"If desired, you can change the TAS automatic engagement feature so that the system will not come on automatically when the engine is started. To do so:
1. Park vehicle with ignition off and transmition in PARK (P).
2. Turn the ignition to RUN; do not start the engine.
3. Apply the brake pedal, press the accelerator pedal to the floor and then press the TAS on/off button and hold it down for at least six seconds.
4. Release the TAS button and both pedals.
5. Turn off the ignition and wait a few seconds.
The next time you start your vehicle, the TAS will not automatically come on. You can restore the automatic feature by using the same procedure. Whether the TAS is set to come on automatically or not, you can always turn the system on or off by pressing the TAS on/off button."

Hope that helps and keeps you from messing with the wiring in order to achieve something thats programed into the truck.
The dash light will remain on if you do it this way, but I have adjusted to mine over three years that I don't even notice it. The placement of the light on the new trucks may be different though.
However, I'd prefer to disable it the correct way and then remove the bulb for the warning light then the ground out a wire and rig it to be off.

Thanks,
That did the trick... didn't even think to look in the owner's manual... figured they didn't want you mucking around with features like that.
Now if I could only make it so the LED lit up when ENGAGED... and off when disabled...

No it is just one light... It only lights up when traction control is deactivated, and is amber in color like the check engine light. When traction control is ON... the light disappears.

You got to be f ing kidding me!! When I first got my truck I went to the dealer to see if they could program it off and they said no way-the way it works is the way it works so I borrowed their service manual and figured out the wiring so I could do it manually. I never thought to look in the owner manual. Now I am going to have to go read the darn thing.

Look in the index for Traction Assist and you'll be able to find it. Looking from the contents pages in the front makes it very hard to find the right paragraph.
