DIrect Hits Ignition

GandolphXX has it over at www.gm-trucks.com on an 8.1 blown 'Lanch. He is one of the mods over there. Also, our M.I.A. #2 joejoe has it if I remember right. IMO, seems like a lot of money for a little gain.

I use the Direct Hits on both of my 8.1 trucks. Here are two posts that I put up in FCS last week. The discussion was about improveing gas mileage -
I drive two hungry 8.1s. The first is in an '02 Suburban and a bunch of air is stuffed in the motor by a Whipple supercharger with an intercooler. The truck gets about 11-12MPG with a mix of city/highway driving. Towing a 10,000lb enclosed car hauler I've seen a best of 7.6 doing about 70-80. Other mods include The Other Guys headers, a Volant induction, Direct Hits ignition and custom programming. The Volant/Direct Hits were good for about a 15% increase in gas mileage while towing. Haven't figured it out without the trailer yet.
The other vehicle is a 2002 Silverado HD (EC/LB). It has a 6" lift and 35" tires so that doesn't help with mileage. Without a trailer I see 8-9MPG and a best of 7.8 while towing at 70-80 MPH. Performance mods include The Other Guys headers, Volant induction, Direct Hits ignition, Comp Cam and custom programming.
I'm really not happy with the mileage but it comes with the territory. The only other thing that I can do to improve mileage is to go with electric fans. I'm working on getting something that will work with the big radiator that comes with the 8.1. Flex-a-lite's 282 fans are a little small for this radiator.

I'm not sure what the exact mileage gain would be from the Direct Hits but can tell you that it really does work. Road trips are usually a good way to see the mileage difference after doing something like this. I was seeing 200-220 miles per tank while towing (that wasn't good at all ). After I installed the Direct Hits and Volant mileage went up to 255-272 per tank while driving. This was measured during two 500+ mile trips to the same location. I maintained the same driving style/speed on each trip.
