different stock heads?

is it true that the heads are different on some trucks, like on the 5.3 engines?
and if so, what are the differences and witch are better? i got an 03 sil head says 706 my friend has an 04 sil his says 862.

Why are most castings 862's and ever so rarely you find a 706? Were they meant for another country or something and chevy ran out of 862's?

btw, my truck (2003 5.3 Silverado) has 706 cast# heads while my brother's 1999 5.3 Sierra has 862 cast# heads.
