I was just looking through a bunch of posts again (I looked into them a while back). Back then, all I remember reading is that they're basically a waste of money that could be better spent towards a better rear end (9" or 12 bolt). The gist of it was that other parts would fail before anything related to what the girdle helps, fails.....

Now, it seems like it's split half and half... Now it's "Well, it definitely won't hurt, and they're not that expensive".

So I don't know!?

I LOVE the looks of them. Plus they have a drain bolt.
But aren't the truck rear internals beefy enough for what most of us are doing, where the car 7.5's are basically worthless?

The fbody guys wish they had the same rear end from factory as us. The 7.5 that theirs come with is the same crappy one is a little s10's rear end.

Our is an 8.5" 10 bolt vs the 7.5"

I've havn't heard of anyone blowing out an aftermarket posi (eaton, auburn) in ours yet, so im pretty sure it'll hold to what most of us are doing. I think bigkid grenaded the stock g80 on slicks one time.

To be honest, I always thought the cars had the 8.5 rear ends! (I thought that 7.5 was a typo, Scream sorry).

Why on earth did GM put 7.5's behind ~300hp? Even my ZR2 S10 had a 8.5" gear!

Allright... sorry for throwing that curve ball, guys. I thought it was relevant!

It all goes back to what Flyer mentioned about the housings flexing a little under excessive power. Our coupled with a good carrier, our rearend internals are pretty strong but if the housing flexs and throws everything out of line... something is gonna break. As for the 7.5 inthe cars.. the gears them selves are just weak, especially as you go to a shorter gear like 4.10. A girdle is not going to help weak gears but it will help with housing flex and keeping the bearings loaded so they dont walk. So I feel they are a good investment for us 8.5" 10 bolt guys.
and yes.. I did grenade my G80 into a gazillion pieces.

I have the TA rear diff girdle, got it straight from TA Performance, $159.95. I'll be honest, performance aside, I really got it for the way it looks...pretty tough. Plus, it couldn't hurt, holds an extra 1/2 qt of gear oil, made of aluminum, and pre-loads the bearing caps. Check it out:

Same here, Bud...except when I bought mine a few years ago it was $119 plus $20 for the bearing cap studs. I think it looks great and it's never failed me yet...LOL!
